Welcome to KOGOBO — where history is unpicked, reimagined, and meticulously re-stitched for the modern world.

Our story began in Hong Kong in 2019. Driven by an unrelenting passion for authentic craftsmanship, we relocated our studio to the UK, where we continue to refine our art today. As an independent fashion craft label, KOGOBO is dedicated to breathing new life into rare, vintage Japanese textiles. We don’t merely salvage antique fabrics—we honor the hands that wove them, transforming timeless heritage into contemporary worker-style garments and utility accessories.

Deeply Rooted, Illuminated by History At our core, KOGOBO is a fashion craft label born from contrast and harmony. We draw our foundation from Kōbō, an artisan space dedicated to preserving the ancient (Ko) of textiles, while embodying the resilience of Gobō — the deep-rooted burdock plant known for its rugged strength. In a world obsessed with flawless, mass-produced symmetry, we champion a different kind of beauty—one that embraces the raw imperfection of age, texture, and character. We reject rigid standard of perfection. Just as every thread carries its own language of lived stories, we view these antique cloths as living gobos — optical stencils that project the intricate shadows of history, craft, and human artistry directly into the spotlight of modern fashion.

Living Fragments of Imperfect Beauty Instead of letting historical cloths fade into obscurity, we give them a well-deserved second life. By upcycling rare, traditional textiles, we drastically reduce waste while creating functional, grounded garments built to stand the test of time.

Every KOGOBO creation is guided by the unique, organic character of the materials we source. We believe true authenticity lies in imperfection—in the subtle fading of natural dyes, the mended stitches, and the unique distressing earned through time. We work with an array of authentic Japanese heritage fabrics that tell their own stories through rich textures, age, and natural dyes — including Katazome (stencil-dyed cloth), Kasuri & Kurume Kasuri (ikat weave), Kendoji (heavy sashiko weave), Kakishibu (persimmon tannin dye), Shima Momen (striped cotton), Aizome (vintage indigo cloth), and antique Kimono silks.

Slow Craft, Zero Mass Production From handcrafted leather accessories to structured utility wear, absolutely nothing at KOGOBO is mass-produced. Every single stitch is executed with the precision of a dedicated craftsman and the eye of an artist. Because we work exclusively with limited vintage drops and rare antique finds, no two pieces are ever identical. Each piece carries a bold attitude: a defiance against uniform perfection and an homage to the beauty found in life’s raw, honest flaws.
